The Laurel School District is a public school district based in Laurel, Mississippi (USA).
==District Administration==
Following Dr. Glenn Magee's retirement from the position of Superintendent of Education in 2010, Dr. Chuck Benigno was appointed as Superintendent, after serving the Jones County School District in an Asst. Superintendent position. Dr. John Harper serves as Dept. Superintendent, and has for many years. Dr. Maggie Griffin served as Asst. Superintendent for Laurel following a brief stay at South Pike School District in Magnolia, Mississippi. Dr. Griffin announced in the Spring of 2012 that she would depart the Laurel School District, as she was being vetted for two lead positions in other districts. Dr. Griffin was lead contender to return to South Pike and also Moss Point. Ultimately the Vancleave native would return closer to home, and accepted the position as Superintendent of Education for Moss Point School District.
The District is led by the Board of Trustees consisting of Secretary Ann Barrow, President Miranda Beard, Vice President Mike Axton, Rev. Earnest Thompson and Doncella Milton. Miranda Beard is a name familiar in the Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast community as an anchor on WDAM TV.
